Cheez-it 355 Fantasy Preview

Cheez-It 350 at the Glen Yahoo Preview

Congratulations to Chris Buescher for wining the fog/rain shortened Pennsylvania 400 at the tricky triangle on Monday, after the race was postponed Sunday due to rain. The caution came out with 28 laps to go, due to fog, and was at 22 laps to go when the red flag came out. There was more than an one hour wait from the Red flag to the calling of the race. This was Chris' first Sprint Cup win, and the 2nd win for Front Row Racing. This past weekend rookies won every race. Camping World, Xfinity, and Sprint Cup. First time ever.

This week the NASCAR Sprint Cup goes to Watkins Glen for a road course race. Watkins Glen is 2.428 miles long. The track was repaved since last years race. Jeff Gordon has won four poles, Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson have won two poles in their careers. AJ Allmendinger has won one pole. Tony Stewart has the most all time wins with five, followed by Jeff Gordon with four career wins. The first NASCAR race was in 1957, Buck Baker won that race, in a Chevy. He led every lap, pole to finish The next race wasn't until July 19th, 1964. That race Billy Wade won in a Mercury.

All stats are from 2010-2015, Unless otherwise noted. There have been six races in that time. Some numbers have been rounded up.

A Drivers:

Yahoo picks for the Cheez-it 355 at Watkins Glen

Kevin Harvick: 9.2 average finish at Watkins Glen. He has three top ten's, and one top five. In the last five races he has four top ten's, with two top five's for a finish average of 12.4. This year his average finish is eighth. In 15 races at Watkins Glen he has a 12.00 average finish

In the last five races he has one top ten, and no other race in the top twenty, for a finish average of 20.6. This year his average finish is twenty-third. I don't think Clint would finish well this year. He will be in better equipment next year in the #14, taking over for Tony Stewart.

Casey Mears: 16.2 average finish in five races at Watkins Glen. All of his finishes were 12th-20th. If you need to save, Casey would be a good choice. He finished third in first practice, today. I'm late writing this, now. In the last five races he has one top fifteen, and no other races in the top twenty, for a finish average of 22.8. This year his average finish is twenty-fifth.

Tony Stewart: 24.0 average finish at Watkins Glen. He has one top ten, since 2010. But Tony's numbers are better than that, if you count his whole career. In the last five races he has four top fifteen finishes, three of those were top five finishes, for a finish average of 9.8. This year his average finish is fourteenth.

C Drivers:

Chase Elliott: 6.5 average finish in two Xfinity races. Both races he finished in the top ten, leading one lap. In the last five races he has one top fifteen finish, giving him a 29.0 average finish position.. Things have been tough for him. Will he be able to turn it around? I think he can. This year his finish average sixteenth.

David Ragan: 23.0 average finish at Watkins Glen. All six of his finishes were between 28th -21st. In the last fives races his finish average is 27.4, with no top twenty finishes. This year his finish average is twenty-eighth.

Jeff Gordon: 25.8, Yes, 25.8 average finish at Watkins Glen. Over his career he does have four poles, and four wins. His best finish since 2010 is tenth, in 2010. From 2013, 14, and 2015. His best finish was 34th in those three years. In 2015 he finished 41st, after starting 5th, his average running position was 33rd. 2014 he has a 114.8 loop data, but finished 34, 2013 his loop data was 31.5 and finished 36th. Jeff is good for saves, but I think other drivers in the C group, might be a better choice this week.

Cole Whitt: 32.0 average finish at Watkins Glen in two races. Last year he finished twenty-first. The last five races he has one top twenty finish. His finish average for the year is twenty-ninth.
